Geographical Location

奧地利位於中歐的內陸國家,北接德國及捷克、東鄰斯洛伐克及匈牙利、南接斯洛維尼亞及義大利、西鄰瑞士及列支敦士登。由於阿爾卑斯山的存在,貫穿奧地利的中東部,北部及南部,使奧地利成為一個山地國。奧地利首都為座落於多瑙河邊的維也納,同時也是最大的城市。

Austria is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Slovakia and Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west. Because the Alps run through the center, east, north and south of Austria, Austria is a mountainous country. Sitting by the Danube, Vienna, the capital of Austria, is also the largest city in Austria.

Population and Ethnic

奧地利人口約907萬,地處歐洲三大族(日耳曼、斯拉夫、拉丁)之交匯處,奧地利人主要由屬於日耳曼部落群的阿勒曼尼人、巴伐利亞人、法蘭克人結合而成。土耳其人為奧地利第一大移民人口,其次為賽爾維亞族。奧地利官方語言以德語為主,亦通英語。

The population of Austria is about 9,070,000 and a hub for three main peoples in Europe (Germanic people, Slavic people and Latin people). Austrians are regarded as ethnic Germans, including Alamanni, Bavarian and Franks. Turkish people form the largest ethnic group in Austria and the second largest ethnic group is Slavic population. The official languages is German and English is widely spoken.

Cultural Features

奧地利文化受到鄰近國家義大利、波蘭、德國等影響,在文學、科學及藝術等領域都有相當好的發展。其中在音樂方面,奧地利首都維也納是重要的音樂創新中心,成就多位著名音樂家如海頓、莫扎特、舒伯特等。

Austrian culture is greatly influenced by its neighbors: Italy, Poland, Germany and other countries. It is well known for its literature, science and art. Especially for music, Vienna, the capital of Austria, is an important center of musical innovation, which cultivated many famous musicians, such as Haydn, Mozart, Schbert, etc.

Features of Food

飲食文化多源自皇室貴族的奧地利,以精緻甜點聞名;此外也因地處中歐內陸,地形多山、冬季寒冷,為了補充熱量,偏重肉類和重口味。奧地利的代表食物有牛肉湯(Tafelspitz), 搭配馬鈴薯及奶油辣根醬一同品嚐。其他特色食物炸肉排(Schnitze)、皇帝煎餅(Kaiserschmarren)、薩爾斯堡蛋霜糕(Salzburger Nockerln)、薩赫蛋糕(Sacher Torte)及維也納米朗琪咖啡(Wiener Melange)等。

The Austrian diet dates back to royal nobility and is known for its delicate dessert. In addition, due to a landlocked and mountainous country as well as its freezing cold winters, the Austrian diet is heavily rich in meat and strong flavor. The typical Austrian cuisines are Tafelspitz, served with potatoes and creamed horseradish. Other special cuisines are Schnitze, Kaiserschmarren, Salzburger Nockerln, Sacher Torte, Wiener Melange etc.
