馬來西亞全國總面積共330,345平方公里,被南海分為東西兩大部分:西半部的馬來半島分為十一個州及二個聯邦直轄區吉隆坡和布城,常稱為「西馬」,北接泰國,南部隔著柔佛海峽,以新柔長堤和第二通道與新加坡連接;而東半部位於世界第三大島婆羅洲的北部,分屬沙巴和砂拉越兩個州及納閩聯邦直轄區,常被稱為「東馬」,南鄰印度尼西亞的蓋瑞曼丹,而汶萊則與東馬三面接壤。

The total area of Malaysia is 330,345 square kilometers, which is separated into two regions by the South China Sea. There are 11 states and two federal territories, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya on Peninsular Malaysia, which is also called “West Malaysia,” bordered by Thailand to the north and Johore Strait to the south, connecting Singapore with Johor-Singapore Causeway and Second Link. Located in the north of Borneo Island, the world’s third largest island, the east part of Malaysia consists of the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, as well as the Federal Territory of Labuan, which is also called “East Malaysia,” bordered by Indonesia to the south and surrounded by Brunei on three sides.

馬來西亞目前約有3,291萬人口,由馬來人、華人(包括峇峇娘惹/土生華人)、印度人、原住民(伊班人、卡達山杜順人、比達友人、閃邁人、其他西馬半島原住民、東馬砂拉越和沙巴原住民)和少數歐亞群體(克里斯坦人)等共同組成的多元民族國家。官方語言為馬來語,英語及華語使用普遍。

The current population of Malaysia is 32,910,000. The population of Malaysia consists of ethnic groups: Malays, Chinese (including Baba Nyonya, Straits Chinese), Indians, indigenous people (Iban, Kadazandusun, Bidayuh, Semai, other indigenous people in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak) and a minority European-Asian group (Christian). Malay language is the official language. English and Mandarin Chinese are also commonly used in Malaysia.

文化特色

Cultural Features

馬來西亞文化是一種融合馬來族、華族、印度族及原住民族文化特色的多元文化。當地的藝術(舞蹈及音樂)、建築及宗教等皆因為不同民族而發展出獨有的文化特色。

Malaysian culture is influenced by various ethnic groups, including Malays, Chinese, Indians and indigenous people. The local art (dance and music), architecture and religion are unique due to being under the influence of various ethnic groups.

美食特色

Features of Food

馬來西亞料理以娘惹菜(中國料理及馬來料理融合)為主要形式,同時也受到印度及阿拉伯影響,將辛香料(如辣椒、薑及咖哩等)入菜。馬來亞南部菜系與新加坡口味相似,偏甜偏重。東馬沙巴菜則是清淡濃味兼有的馬來華人菜式,同時結合進椰香味重的娘惹菜特色。馬來西亞代表性的料理如沙嗲(Satay)、叻沙(Laksa)等。

The typical Malay cuisine is Peramakan (mixed Chinese cuisine and Malay cuisine). Influenced by India and the Arabs, they add spices (such as chili, ginger and curry) to their dishes. Food in south Malaysia tastes similar to that in Singapore, but a little sweeter. Sabah Vege is a Malay Chinese cuisine, mixing light and strong flavors along with the taste of coconut. The traditional Malay cuisines are Satay and Laksa.
